“Am patiently waiting for the third in this series!!”BookNookNut wrote this review Monday, October 3, 2011. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“A very dramatic book. The inhabitants of this world are leaving the towns and villages on foot, horse or wagons before a merciless horde of invaders. Danger awaits from the land in a forest of magic that changes its boundaries, engulfing the unwary travelers and changing their physical forms as well as their minds. Some are monstrous looking and some are monsters inside.
There are guides helping the humans get by this dangerous trail to safer towns. Not totally human although the travelers are unaware. Follow the adventures of travelers escaping the invaders and forest, and some who don't.
There is actually an element of horror to this book, strong and weak characters. The guides are fascinating and mysterious, near gods under their own geas to travel and prevail to become demigods, or die.
Not my favorite of her books but I read them over again because they haunt me with images. The series seems unfinished.
“Imagine the nearby woods as both sentient and amoral, and you'll understand how lives can be transformed in an instant. Conflict in one form or another is constantly shaping the characters and choices in this fantasy. This is the first in a planned trilogy. Deepwood is the second title. The third isn't advertised as yet, so if you can't stand unfinished tales, wait a bit.”homeinthehills wrote this review Thursday, March 13, 2008. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful?
