“I liked certain things about this book, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's not exactly a post-apocalyptic novel, more a book about what would happen if the very structure of our society--as based on technology, convenience, and consumption--were to crumble (in this case, because of war, among other things).

I was interested in and cared about the characters, and the author effectively made me feel like I had visited their house, the clearing, and the forest.
