I just really loved Carrie and Nathan and of course Ziggy. I hated her sire Cyrus and will never understand her attraction to this fiend....” see full review » see other reviews » |

In this one, vampires are evil, and after the heroine is attacked by a vampire in the hospital morgue, she’s taken in by a guy who’s a vampire slayer, and a vampire. If a new vampire swears off the evil vampire life...” see full review » see other reviews » |

I mean, in the first 5 minutes of reading I was sucked in! I love her vision of Vampires. It is very close to how I envision their lives. Not all pretty and sweet. They are, at times, complete monsters and scary as all get out. I love following Carrie on her whole transformation and what not, but at the same time, I sure don't think it happens that quickly. But still...all in all, a great book to read!”

I met a few books that horrible. I've got two shelf that most book won't like to visit but if they will it's in the shelf "Worth A Shot" that's before it get's in the "Save A Tree" shelf...
One of the things I've always found hard to do was read a book in a third person. It's very hard for me to imagine the characters as they should when I'm busy seeing them as me.
Holy Sh!t - Reading the Turning is a slooow read. Infact, can you imagine reading a book that takes half way through just on educating you on how she "turned" into a vampire. ugh!! - It really could of taken three chapters in my opinion.
The turning is like every other vampire book, in order to become one you get bitten and exchange blood. If there is one thing this book did was elaborate heavily on how vampires turn and the blood ties behind them. If you read Christeena Feehan - Carpathians - how she explains the changes is mastermind because it's not the entire STORY but an integral part of it.
So after that you'll be surprised to know that, I didn't force myself to read it though. WHY? The sidekicks - they weren't funny but they were way more believable that the main character Dr. Carrie by herself.
QUICK BEREAKDOWN
The main story I got out of the book is that every last one of those characters are dysfunctional and desperately want to be loved. They will do some crazy ass things for that to happen and that is where the story really begins.
Carrie is studying to be a doctor, she gets turned by a bad-ass vampire called Cyrus. Another vampire named Nathan is trying to kill Cyrus which happens to be his brother and he's a good guy now, with like issues but not half as much as his FREAK brother Cyrus! Who I just LOVED to hate. The checkmark kept coming when he was on scene in the book.
Nathan found an orphan boy named Ziggy, he became like a father to him along with being his personal blood bank. WOW! some fatherly love.
However, again the dynamics was great when in the presence of Cyrus.
There are few other characters I should mention like Dahlia crazy ass bitch who won't take NO for an answer. We all know that one girl who won't move on from her ex-boyfriend who never gave a shit about her, treated her like dirt.
The other character in the book name is MAX, he was hilarious in the scene and thank GOD because the book is very graphic in the fight scenes of spilling blood an such, that I definitely needed some humor and he delivered.
Getting back to Nathan, he is complicated but there is so much more you want to find out about him, that I kept reading the book to get some answers. Which I do, but as I get an answer another question pops up.
It's the only reason I'm compelled a tiny bit to read Book two of this series BUT I have to get over the fact that the BEST character in this book is CYRUS and the author Jennifer Armintrout did something to me. She SHOCKED the hell out of me what she did with him. I'm PISSED and other emotions I can't giveaway for obvious reasons...
SEX - I must have missed the sex scenes either that or they were forgettable and people I LOOOOOOVEEEEEE my SEX, so if everything is going to be poor you better make it up with some HOT n HEAVY sex scenes!
So your asking me should I read this book, honestly I can give you a ton of other author's to spend your well earned and/or borrowed money on. However, I always say for series buy book 1 and 2 before you make an ultimate decision of the series. And No I'm not going to run out and buy Book 2 it's going on my waiting list and I think it's spot maybe #84 for now.
But if anyone has any spoilers on CYRUS in any upcoming series. I would LOVE To know, only then will I bump book 2 to my I have to read shelf.

Don't think I liked it enough to read the other installations in this series though. As a standalone it does well but just thinking about it as the beginning of yet another series puts me off it. So, as long as it's only as a quick read (although it doesn't really pan out that quickly)**sighs deeply**(I'm ranting!!!), I'd suggest this book as a definite option. ”
