Shocking story of a young girl's will to free herself from an arranged marriage. It is a glimpse into the lives of women in Yemen, but one-sided as well. The books is very easy to read, as it is told from the child's point of view. It also shocks you and angers you for the abuse she suffered.

The blurb tells us that this is the story of a little girl named Najood who, at age 9, was forced to marry a much older man who abused her. She mustered the courage to go alone to the courthouse to find a judge who would help her. In that country, and those times, she is just lucky that the...

This is a remarkable story about a girl named Nujood. She was born and lives in Yemen. She comes from a very poor family and lives in a dangerous country of male dominance and women/female children are at the disposal of their father. Nujood's family originated from a small town with no technology and limmited resources. You could only get in/out by horseback. After her sister was married off to a man her father moved the family to a larger city to make more money. When the family arrived in the city Nujood was nine years old and was sold by her father to a man three times her age. Quickly after the arranged marriage, she was moved back to her original home town. She did not know anyone, she was beaten, repeatedly raped by her husband and escape was not an option because there was no trasnporation in or out and crossing desert by foot was lethal. One day her husband took her to the city for work and allowed her to visit her family. She took the opportunity to escape to the court house and won the hearts of some powerful attorneys who exposed her situation--illegal marrigae-she was underage and the abuse she endured. This is a true story of survivial in a world that is unfamiliar to many, yet still exists. This would be an excellent choice for a high school sociology or anthropology course. I would highly reccomend this book to be available in every hgih school library.

An eye-opening look at the Yemeni custom of arranged marriages. In this case, Nujood is a 10 year old girl, whose father makes a business arrangement which results in her marriage to a 30-something year old man. The man agrees not to touch her until after she reaches puberty, but instead he repeatedly rapes her. On their wedding night, she ran and screamed for help. The women in her husband's family heard her, but did nothing to help her. In the morning, they congratulated her on the loss of her virginity. Jujood's older sister was raped, and then because of the great shame that this brought on her family, she was quickly married off to her rapist. She was 13. Nujood bravely ran away and sought help from a judge in court, and was granted a divorce. She was able to return to her family, who are ashamed of her behavior.

This book is about a girl who is 10 years old, and lives in a small town with a big family. She soon discovered that she had to get married. The man she married is horrible, abusive and she hates him. Nujood is far away from her family and she doesn't know how to escape. This book had great detail and expressions.

I really this book. When I read it it made me sad and want to cry. I recommend this book to everyone. This author really did explain really good about her life. This book was really sad because Nujood got married at a really young age to a man 3 times her age. The happy thing about this book is she ran away to the court. I rate this book 4 out 5 because it really good but not really really good

Informative and very readable. I enjoy reading about people and countries that I know little about. Nujood is a brave and smart little girl who made a difference in her country.

I liked this book, I mean I didn't absolutely fall in love with it but I mean it was good. I think it followed its story line pretty well. It was well written, I mean this story makes you wanna cry, scream, smile, laugh and just get up and be thankful of the life you have. I think it takes a great author to come up with this kind if writing, but at the same time it just breaks your heart too know that this is a true story and some poor, helpless little girls is getting treated like a thing. Not even for her full potential, just makes me so mad and sad that I can't help but read more. I would recommend this books for girls 12-14

This book is written by Nujood and co-written by a journalist. It is such a terrible story of what would be considered abuse in our country but is unfortunately quite common in Muslim countries. Nujood's father gives her to marriage to a man 25 years older than she is. She is 10! He gives his promise to not touch her until she reaches puberty but takes advantage of her on their so called wedding night. This is her story of fear but also her courage to go to court and get a divorce. It is written in the voice of a 10 year old so is quite simply done.

This book is about a Yemeni girl who gets married off around age 9. Her husband repeatedly abuses her and she can do nothing about it, until he allows her go and visit her parents she escapes to the courthouse. I chose to read this book because it looked interesting. Three interesting facts that I learned are that most Yemeni women are (like Nujood) are married off at a very young age, Khardji (where Nujood is from) is not easily reachable by anything but by donkey, and married Yemeni women are required to wear a black scarf (called a niqab) around their faces while in public. As to weather I would recommend this book, depends on what kinds of books you like. If you like more, say, happy books you might not like this book as much because 1) you know it’s completely true and 2) at some parts I almost cried!

It's wonderful to hear that ones' fate can be changed through determination and the help of others. Nujood had/has remarkable courage and became a heroine instead of a victim.

It's a very good way to spend an afternoon. I didn't really learn anything new, per se, but it's a face to go with a very sad and abusive situation.
