Truly one of my favorites. It is as wonderful now as it was when I read it in high school. You might not like Beth, but consider her as a wounded mother and you can see her in a whole different light. You will LOVE this book and you are supposed to be a little confused between the father and Conrad at the beginning.

Beautifully written. Some of the best developed characters I have ever read. A deeply moving story that seemed so real from start to finish.

It gives the idea that sometimes parents have favorites.

I read this book in an adolescent literature course in college. It strikes me as a book that captures a darker part of reality and brings forth the personalities life's difficulties force us into.

A lesser known novel in the coming of age style of Catcher in the Rye, or Bell Jar. Well worth the read, if for nothing else than to read a book OTHER than the two aforementioned. Great for a high school english class.

My all time favorite book. It was the first book I remember reading in which the characters stayed with me long after the final punctuation.

It's amazing how many books are written based on human plight. This one had me thinking for a while.
