“I am, of course, a long-time Stephen King reader. Lisey's Story, his latest novel, is a bit of a departure for him in that it's primarily a book about how a woman deals with the loss of her husband. But don't worry; it's also got a psychotic killer and a giant, man-eating worm-slash-monster...”see full review » see other reviews »

“Probably the only Stephen King book that was not part of a series that I didn't like. I found it hard to stay with the story and it had long descriptions that didn't seem to have anything to do with the story.”see full review » see other reviews »
“I loved going to Booya Moon with Lisey and her dead husband, Scott. Another great story by the master!!!”Ozzie L wrote this review 3 weeks ago. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Overall a great story with disturbing family history and sometimes touching moments. King was annoyingly repetitive in making sure the reader remembered all the little details along the way. It almost ruined it at times. Not his best writing, but a fun ride nonetheless.”Brian W wrote this review Sunday, November 3, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Just wasn't sufficiently grabbed by the story to finish it. If I'm going to read a book this long, it better be compelling.”MaryEllen wrote this review Tuesday, October 1, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Amazing book, one of my favorites by him so far. So rich and vivid, it created a parallel world that felt absolutely real. Might make me suspicious of reflective surfaces for a time, however.”Sally F Moe wrote this review Tuesday, July 2, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This one was bizarre even for Mr. King. It was really out there. If you're not already a huge fan of Stephen King, I wouldn't recommend starting with this one. ”Jessica Pulse wrote this review Tuesday, July 2, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“This is definitely my least favorite King novel. The main character's manner of speaking (her and her dead husband's "language") was so annoying and repetitive that I found myself really "smucking" annoyed. Very unforgettable. It takes King's weaknesses (repetitiveness, cheesiness, difficulty writing female characters) and amplifies them. ”Robert R wrote this review Wednesday, May 8, 2013. “Spellbinding look at the wife of a best selling novelist and tormented man. Interesting look at how marriages evolve and the secret language and life we build. ”Leigh M wrote this review Monday, March 25, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Where to begin? I've loved SK since I was a teen in the early 80's. And even if I've been disappointed now and then, I keep reading. This time it feels like hard work to get through the story.
A few times now I've even said out loud "COME ON! ENOUGH 'SECRET' LANGUAGE ALREADY!!"
I certainly remember phrases from past books that came up over and over: "Do you love?" "They float." "Cock-a-doody." And there were others that have, thankfully, passed to my subconscious. A time or 2 is ok. 15 times is pushing it. More than that is pure annoyance.
Also it's not necessary, and is in fact distracting, to attribute every expression to some particular person. Who cares??? It's an expression; move on.
Ditto the asides telling us that someone doesn't care about what's being said. We get it!”
“This book was so boring in places that I almost gave it up. The interesting sections were what kept me going. Not King's best.”Elaine R wrote this review Thursday, March 21, 2013. ( reply | permalink ) Was this review helpful? Yes | No
“Lisey's Story is beautifully written, creepy, heartbreaking and perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed it, with all its twists and turns. A beautiful book, and a strange sort of love story. Though not as scary as his most iconic books, King still does not disappoint on grounds of telling a great story.”KK wrote this review Tuesday, March 12, 2013.
