I'd never heard of this story or the Hard Case Crime publications (what would probably be a collection if the stories were a little shorter, this was 178 pages) but this is the story the Sci-Fi show "Haven" is based on so I was curious, and being Stephen King I found several at the library. For...

A short read, I picked this book up because I was watching the series on Sci-fi. The book is really nothing like the show, not really a surprise although the characters in the story are fun to listen to.

Listend to this on CD while driving to take care of my Dad's ashes. A bit different for King but I liked it. (9/25 - 9/26)

This is more of a short story, not a real novel. It is not spectacular, but it is well written in the great style of The King.

I had this on my Kindle for a while, but somehow managed to forget about reading it until now. This is more of a long short story than a book, but it was very enjoyable.

I loved the interaction between the young newspaper intern Stephanie and her two elderly bosses, Dave and Vince. Of course, it is set in Maine, and it provides short and vivid glimpse into island life in that state. (Much like Dolores Claiborne and her tale from Little Tall Island.)

Some might find this unsatisfying because it provides no answers. But that's exactly King's point. Sometimes life doesn't tidy things up with easy answers, and we're left with messy questions. It's more a story about curiosity and the insatiable need to know than anything else. You don't have to be a journalist to have that particular bug.

I wanted to read this book because of its loose connection to "Haven" on the SYFI channel. After finishing it, I can say it is so loose that the only connection is the two newspaper guys. But that's ok because The Colorado Kid offered a little something different, an unsolved mystery and a look into the minds of journalists.

I wasn't fond of this book, I thought that compared to other Stephen King books, that it was not at all as entertaining or as fluent as it should be. I thought that the book was inconsistent with how the mystery was unraveled, in the beginning it started of bland, started to become more interesting, and then the ending was probably the worst part of the book. The idea of the story isn't bad, its just how it was projected onto paper. There are too many irrelevant details throughout the book, and I think it was one of Stephen Kings worst novels.

The point of this story is Mystery...It's not meant to be solved. So if you read this, know up front that you will be left hanging. The "story-that-is-not-a-story" is the device used to show you just how much a mystery can make you it's prisoner. I truly enjoyed this book in the two days that it took me to read it. I'd have finished it in a day if i hadn't been so tired. If you like a good mystery and don't mind it being unsolved...check this out. If your mystery must in fact be solved...this is not a book that I recommend for you then. As I said, it's not really meant to be solved. It's meant to make you think.

Not a bad quick story. Loved listening to the two Maine guys on the audiobook. The Maine accent is so crucial to the story. Just an intresting murder mystery. Definitely could have another book to this tale. I will never look at meat the same again.

I read this when it came out. Not sure why it isn't on my shelf yet. Slack me, I guess :-) I just finished listening to it on CD today, so now get to add my review. I thought it was an excellent showcase of King's writing ability. Most notably, his command of dialogue and conversation between characters. Unfortunately in this case, that was pretty much the book. I still really liked it, but it was slow and nebulous, which I am sure was fully intentional on the part of the author. The mystery is the story here. That's all you get.
