Characters edit see section history

  • Hem/Cai: Hem (or Cai, his birth name, which he refuses to use), is Maerad's younger brother and the Main Character of The Crow. Orphaned at the sack of Pellinor and taken by Hulls to an orphanage, Hem still bears scars from his traumatized childhood. Arriving in Turbansk with his guide and protector, the Bard Saliman, after fleeing from Norloch, Hem has found himself uncomfortable with his vocation of Barding, until he discovers his talent at healing midway through the book
  • Saliman: A member of the first circle of Turbansk, and often considered one of the most important bards in the Suderain, Saliman is charismatic and brilliant. Saliman and Cadvan were both students of Nelac, and are very close friends. A gifted healer, Saliman is still better known as a warrior in his city
  • Zelika: A girl from Baladh who sadly lost her family through war. Eager to avenge her family and doesn't care if she dies. Quickly becomes friends with Hem and Saliman takes her under his wing.
  • Maerad: Hem's sister- the main character in the first two books in the series. While she searches for the treesong in the north, Hem stays with Saliman in Turbansk.
  • Irc: Hem's pet crow, which is unusually white in colour. Very cheeky and clever and a good friend to Hem.
  • Sharma: The Nameless One, head of the dark side in the war.
  • Nyanar: A powerful Elidhu which appears to Hem.
