Audible Books to recommend 272 books / 211 members / 593 posts I thought it would be nice to have a list of books that people have read that are on audible (i.e., downloads from Audible.com, library CDs, etc).

Often I have to go from book review back to Audible.com to see if it's there before I can check it off to my Wish List (right now I am listening to my books for the most part). I don't like cassette tapes, however, and I have seen where a book may be available on tape but not CD or download. Downloads are less expensive, too. Starlet
Stephen King 84 books / 648 members / 2249 posts This is a group for fans of Stephen King. Let's talk about his work - favorite book, favorite characters, last read. Any and everything King. It would be nice to also talk about other authors King fans read while waiting for the next awesome Stephen King book.
Science Fiction 858 books / 3099 members / 1869 posts Sci-fi group for those who grok - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grok

Recommend some stuff, let people know about new authors, help people find some good books to read.

I want to try to help people (including myself) find some lesser known, obscure, new, or under appreciated authors. I have nothing against Heinlein, Dick, Asimov, Gibson, etc... but let's take Grandmasters and Best-Sellers as a given. You could fill 20 pages full of the big names and that wouldn't point the way to new books. Let's do what SciFi is meant to do and explore some new frontiers... oh man, that makes me sound like I should own a closet full one piece jumpsuits.
book nerds 55 books / 50 members / 383 posts This is a private group for Mrs. McMickin's students.

Remember: (1) start a post about your book with the book title in the subject line (2) post a comment to 5 different people about the book they are reading (do this by hitting "reply" under their avatar) and (3) post a review about your book (hit reply to your original message)

Be honest in your review - if you didn't like the book...say so!

Comments should be well thought out. Please refrain from posting comments like, "I like this book, too." Tell what you like about it!!

Inappropriate posts will be removed immediately.

Don't forget to tell me your user name so that I can give you a grade.

** To see what everyone is reading just go to the Book Shelf and click on "view our shelf" ....then click on "books we are reading" (instead of "books we've read")

McMickin's bookworms 63 books / 44 members / 325 posts READ THIS BEFORE YOU START POSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a private group for my seniors who are completing their second book project - which brings them all one step closer to passing my class and, hopefully, graduating! Students are to start a post with their book title in the subject line. Pose a question or make a comment about your book within one week of joining. Then, over the next two weeks, respond to at least three other people. Finally, post a brief review of your book when you complete it - do this under your original post. All 3 of my classes will be under the same group; therefore, it is very important that you put your book title in the subject line. Also, keep all posts relevant to the subject! I am going to start one post about something random - you can use this to talk to each other about how much you hate all this work I am assigning- or anything else random. I won't be mad....say whatever you want to each other as long as it is here and not under a book post! : )
Reader's Cramp 82 books / 202 members / 267 posts This group is solemnly dedicated to every reader's cramp: the aggravating tome.

Do you still remember the last book you read that frustrated the hell out of you? Maybe it led you on, peaked your interest but then clichéd you to death in the dark alley of its final 'graph. Perhaps it promised what it could not deliver, or just grated on you with preachy soapboxing.

Add your "favorite" frustrating books to the group shelf. Vent about your latest letdown. Commiserate, carp, and kvetch. Go ahead, let it all out...we understand.
Business Book Lovers 176 books / 408 members / 100 posts Let's talk about all the best business books. Any genre (marketing, management, investing, finance, etc.) is appropriate for this group.

50 Book Challenge! 3135 books / 3141 members / 18435 posts When asked about the new Amazon Kindle product, Steve Jobs CEO of Apple computer had this to say:

“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”

Welcome to the the 50 Book Challenge, where we fly in the face of Steve Jobs.

Basically .... the challenge is to read 50 books in one year. OR ... establish a goal for yourself more or less, it's up to you, just because we say 50 books doesn't mean that has to be your goal too.

Start a thread, WITH YOUR NAME IN THE SUBJECT OF YOUR ORIGINAL POST, and log your books. It is a very good idea to bookmark (when in your post, add it to your internet browser's favorites) your post for easy location for future updates. Things move quickly around here.

If you haven't been keeping track of the books you've read, start when you join.

Thanks for being here and have fun. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to contact me.

Select 8 categories. You can select any kind of category to meet your reading tastes. You might want to select some categories that you already read heavily from and others that will lead you to branch out. Examples include fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama, graphic novels, science fiction, mysteries, books my best friend recommended to me, funny books, books on the 1001 books you must read before you die list, Booker Prize winners, etc.
For each of your 8 categories, select 8 books.
Read them all in '08.
You're allowed up to 8 overlaps (books that count in more than one category). Depending on the number of overlaps you select, you'll read 56-64 books in '08.
You are allowed to adjust your list of categories and books at any time during the year.
The 888 challenge was originally posted here: http://triple8challenge.blogspot.com/2007/09/challenge-rules.html

Group guidelines:
Post your list.
On our group shelves, post the books you're currently reading and then move them to our books read shelf.
As you read and/ or finish each book, post a review.
You can also post requests for suggestions for your list.
All discussions must be classroom appropriate.
Enjoy!
Take care,
Ms. Roy
"WTF?" 120 books / 730 members / 2182 posts Ever started reading a book that everyone else seems to love and you just don't get the attraction? Or picked up a book from an author you usually love and wondered if the latest offering was written while talking on the phone? Or perhaps you read the first three chapters of a book and still can't figure out what's going on, who the characters are, the basic plot, or even the purpose of the book at all? What happens when all your friends recommended this great book that you thought was the most poorly written waste of perfectly good trees you ever read?

Welcome! You have found a place to vent your frustrations, discuss your opinions, review justifying arguments, or generally get satisfaction for time wasted on reading a book that just left you asking...WTF????
