This is the story of a young woman growing up in African. She faces a reality youth in the U.S. couldn't fathom. Chanda's witnesses the death of several family members and friends from AIDS. The sexual content permeates the novel. This book was recommended by the Permabound representative for use in English 9 or English 10 classes. I would be leary of doing so in a conservative community because of the sexual undertones. However, the plot and characters show strength that only comes from...
