After reading many versions of the Bible, this one is my favorite. It is the NIV--so it is easy to understand, read, and it's accurate. Plus it has a lot of articles (or tiny history lessons, if you will) on subjects relevant to the text of that and nearby pages. Reading about the rituals, ceremonies, and general life practices of those times has helped me grasp what the original writers were trying to convey. Also, there are more maps, photos, and timelines in this Bible than I've ever seen in any other. I recommend it to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of Biblical times and the Bible itself.

I do many Bible studies. This translation (NIV) is user friendly. The great thing about this Bibleis that history and culture notes appear along side the verses, so you don't have to leave the verse you are reading. The only down side is that the pages are given an "aged" coloring that becomes annoying with frequent use.
