For the student of Christian apologetics this is a great study Bible to have in his/her arsenal. Almost every book, chapter, and passage in the Bible has some sort of archaeological discovery related to it... once again proving both the historicity and veracity of the Holy writ of God's Word.

Obviously the Bible is great reading, but the notes and vignettes in this one leaned a little to much toward the liberal side for me.

After reading many versions of the Bible, this one is my favorite. It is the NIV--so it is easy to understand, read, and it's accurate. Plus it has a lot of articles (or tiny history lessons, if you will) on subjects relevant to the text of that and nearby pages. Reading about the rituals, ceremonies, and general life practices of those times has helped me grasp what the original writers were trying to convey. Also, there are more maps, photos, and timelines in this Bible than I've ever seen in any other. I recommend it to anyone who wants a deeper understanding of Biblical times and the Bible itself.

I do many Bible studies. This translation (NIV) is user friendly. The great thing about this Bibleis that history and culture notes appear along side the verses, so you don't have to leave the verse you are reading. The only down side is that the pages are given an "aged" coloring that becomes annoying with frequent use.
