This book is a book of life and instruction. I've used it for over 30 years and if it had not been for the reading of God's word and learning obedience to His word, I would be a lost soul walking in darkness, and worse of all spiritually dead. Believe me when I say, "I am having a personal relationship with my lord and spiritual father, God.

Finally got around to reading this. Unbelievable. This book is brutal!! Rapes, dismemberments, genocide against whole tribes, circumcisions, incest, 90 year old harem women (crones?), drinking, floods, terror, death, burning cities, murders, patricide (I think? I can't always keep clear who's who), fratricide, plagues, slavery, VENGANCE. What a crazy bunch of myths!! And that's just the first half! I finally gave up half way through this book--it was that depressing. Who in God's name would...

    Lachie:

I don't think the Bible was meant to be interesting as in the context of other books. It wasn't written by one person; rather, it's a compilation of various writers divulging their experiences. So it's not surprising that the stories don't always 'mesh'. The main objective book is elementary: to inspire its readers.

Perhaps if you re-read it without such objectivity, and without the expectation of it being like a typical novel, your perspective may be different. How can you compare the authors of the Bible to modern-day novelists? Did the authors of the Bible anticipate their characters, or know how to twist their words to lead up to suspense, or give the aura of mystery? Of course not! They just penned what they saw and experienced. They didn't write because they like to write stories or because they are especially good at it, they wrote because they wanted to record what they saw. Nothing more, nothing less.

You may believe it to be fiction, and "badly over-written", but to this day, the Holy Bible remains the world's most popular book. It's a staple of billions of homes around the world. If there is one person living in some remote part of the world who has never had many books, the ONE book they are likely to know is the Bible. And that's saying something.

    Lorin B,
But that's what people don't understand!!! Most of them believe the lies of the school systems (which get most of their funding through non profit organizations like the ford foundation and the Rockefeller foundation). The infiltration of communism into our country is astonishing. All the issues we face today in this country can be tracked back to someone in our government not following our own constitution. Our founding fathers (a majority of which were christian) had good sound biblical concepts when they framed our country. This slowly began to corrupted more and more with the establishment of a central bank (the federal reserve which is a private bank), and this my friend will eventually set up the one world government. Some may think my last statement is crazy. Read "The Naked Capitalist" By W. Cleon Skoussen (only about 125pg) which gives a great over view of how this is being pulled off, and how communism is really just a front for the international bankers who are helping set up communist governments around the world. Skoussen's book is an over view of Dr. Carroll Quigley's book "Tragedy and Hope" which Quigley having looked at CFR records wrote a book about what he found. Quigley, being a supporter of this movement wrote this book because he felt that this movement could not be stopped (Quigley was an insider and former President Clinton's instructor)... It's amazing because what these guys are doing is actually WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE.... In the end you have to understand that Lachie M is actually programmed.
