I understood her struggles even more after traveling through the open countryside described in this memoir. Note that the stark language matched her existence and required some reading adjustment, but the plot's generational clash matched my own and kept me reading.

This book starts off so well. I am a sucker for this type of coming-of-age on the western farm/ranch stuff. After she grows up it gets a bit cumbersome and I lost interest. It was a tease for me.
