I usually enjoy Belva Plain's books, but "Her Father's House" was disappointing. It started out interesting, but I found myself skimming chapters in the middle just to get through the book. The ending could have been dramatic, but was boring.
A successful gift

I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my Mom. She loved the book and read it in a few days. I had previously listened to it on audio disc and I loved it. Belva Plain develops her characters so well, you can really relate to their emotions. I love that they are complex and you see them from all sides.
Very Good Quick Read

This is about a lawyer who married badly, got divorced in two years while the wife was pregnant. The mother was never home and often had adulterous affairs. The husband kidnapped the daughter when she was two and took on a new identity, moved to Georgia and lived with a woman on her farm he had met on a plane once that invited him to come by if he was ever in town. His daughter eventually found out about her old identity. I liked this book and would recommend it.

We read this in a book club. After reading the first few pages, I didn't think I was going to like this book at all. How pleasnatly surprised I was after a few more pages - I became engrossed in the story and didn't want to put the book down.
Awesome book

I started this book thinking it was going to be boring. It starts out kind of slow, but then it really gets you hooked. I loved this book.
