Jeff Henderson grows up on the streets in poverty and resorts to easy money by breaking the law. He steals everything and anything from anyone, to go eat at the fast food places he couldn't afford. As he gets older, he gets involved in gangs and has rolemodels of car jacking speaker stealing guys who teach him the ways of selling drugs, getting women, and collecting expensive cars and gold chains. He quickly learns how to turn a fast profit, but he has so much business he is linked to every drug trade in San Diego, so jail waits with open arms.
Jeff spends around a decade in jail, avoiding the people he had once associated with, and regretting his past. As he passes the time on "Terminal Island", he discovers reading and education. Jeff gets involved in the programs at the jail and opens his mind to philosophy, politics, and religion. As Jeff reluctantly starts work in the jail kitchen, he finds the direction to head his life in after jail.
Jeff's devours every cooking book he finds, writes letters to colleges begging for information, and contacts chefs all around asking for jobs and opportunities to pursue his passion. When he finally gets back into the world, he finds a wife to support him, and a family to motivate him. Jeff bounces from job to job, from doing dishes to being the main chef. He learns how to cook with bumps on the road to becoming a talented cook. In the end, Jeff Henderson has come from random girl friends and selling drugs, to having a happy family and a both satisfying and legal job as a chef.
