Good introduction to some of the greats in the art world. Not much emphasis on Eastern Art, though.

This book is great for the person who wants to know a little bit about everything. It covers 500 of the world's greatest painters and sculptors and is very informative. I would recommend this to someone who is unfamiliar with art in general.

What makes "The Art Book" truly a gem is how accessible it makes art itself, as a valuable reference tool in the art library, while some of the most famous artists of all time and their greatest masterworks depicted, the context in which it was created, and what motivated the artist.

This was a gift book from my son ... a "coffee table" kind of book. It is interesting, however. He thought I might be inspired from the works, but I have to admit not many are my style. It is very eclectic, which is a good thing ... broadens the artistic mind.
