- Mrs. Lincoln: A kind hearted misunderstood woman with a mental illness.
- Robert Todd Lincoln: First son of Abraham and Mary Lincoln. Married to Mary Harlan. Father of Mary ("Mamie"). Robert had Mary committed to a lunatic asylum when she began hearing voices, made scenes in public and spent excessive amounts of money on things she didn't need and couldn't use.
- Edward Baker Lincoln.: Second son of Abraham and Mary. Died just prior to his fourth birthday of consumption.
- William Wallace ("Willie") Lincoln: Third son. Died at 12 of typhoid fever while Abraham was in office. His death devastated the entire family.
- Thomas (No Middle Name) Lincoln - Known as "Taddie" or "Tad": Youngest son, nicknamed "Tad" by his father because of his large head and small body. Born with a cleft palate that made his speech almost impossible to understand by anyone outside the family. Had no interest in learning until after his father's assassination when he and his mother moved to Germany. There he learned to read and speak clearly. Died at 18 in Chicago of a heart condition.
- Elizabeth ("Lizzie") Keckly: Mulatto dressmaker and long-time confidant of Mary.
- Dr. Richard J. Patterson: Proprietor and medical supervisor for Bellevue Place, the sanitarium where Mary Lincoln was committed for three months in 1875.
- Mary Harlan: Wife of Robert Lincoln.
- Minnie Judd: Fellow inmate at Bellevue Place, befriended by Mary.
- Mammy Sally: Slave of Mary's parents who helped raise Mary.
- Judge Davis: Attorney who probated the estate of Abraham Lincoln.
