A long, very slow start and not that interesting of a story. It was slightly intriguing to see the genesis of some of his ideas that showed up in later works.

Another gem from Tolkien! The man never ceases to amaze me :) A wonderful story of a little dog and his adventures. Deceptively simple and utterly charming. In true Tolkien style, the journey is everything! Can't wait to read this with my son :)

An adorable story with many clever "fairy tale" elements, many of which draw from literature as well as historical and mythological origins. Riddled with fun, silly characters and some very imaginative "worlds" little Roverandom visits - and of course it is very fun to think that this is a story a dad told his little boys.

Cute. I liked the idea of the Moon being the children land of dreams

I liked the intro best. It gave the history of the story and how it came to be...a story for his son to explain a lost toy while on vacation. The story wasn't fabulous to me, but I loved the intent behind it...confession I even skimmed the last few pages as it was due at the library and I didn't want to make another trip.

Even in books like that, Tolkien creates an entire world and makes it alive

Then the wizard was mad so he put a spell on rover turning him into a toy he was only a real dog in the night but he was still tiny. Rover was bought by a boy and one day he put Rover in his pocket to take a walk on the walk Rover fell out of the boy's pocket. When he did that he was in an area were he spell was not strong he could move and bark even in the day time, but he was still toy size and was not home so he went off on a huge adventure (with many other adventures in it to try to become normal in every way again. Will Rover win back his regular dog life? I would recommend this book to a lot of people, because it is a great fantasy for everyone.

Roverandom, a book I had set aside last year. It's one of those short books that takes awhile to get through. Tolkien wrote it as a children's story, but with his writing style and time period it was placed in the adult section, so I wouldn't classify it as a children's story. It would probably be too difficult for most young readers to get through, but could be read as a bedtime story, or a quick enjoyable read for the children at heart ;)
