“the attempt to make the story interesting failed as i have discovered the characters more deeply. i was bored and erdrich created a world beyond imagining very unlike garcia-marquez and isabel allende.

“OK, but would not have persevered through to completion except it was selection for my book club. Writing was fine, but moved too slowly or just didn't capture me.”

It's so quirky and colorful, with a random assortment of odd events pulled together to create a great story. I really enjoyed it - it left me thinking alot about life and death. The main character is wonderful - it's a 100 year old priest that has served his life on an indian reservation but is really a woman... ”
