“This is a collection of fairy tales that focus on the women. There is a strange sense of disphoria and so much symbolism it practically bleeds.”

“Some stories are very good and very unsual in the best sense. But, some are a little bit behind good and bad, quite strange. But worth reading.

“Several of these stories are really good, including "The Blood Chamber." Others are redundant, a little gratutious, and lacking the expected fairy tale connection.”

“Here we have some macabre feminist literature. These "fractured fairy tales", if one may term them so, are filled with gothic elements and moralistic overtones. Carter is never subtle though and it is bloody. ”
