Decadently styled and sensual fairy-tales. Carter's language is so rich you feel ensconced in velvet and rich tapestries where she seduces you into forbidden danger. Beware! This is one delicious peril you can't resist walking into starting with the Bloody Chamber where I savoured her words, crafted like a deep rich full bodied wine, the kind that stains your lips the color of crimson. Intoxicating!

Well written and intriguing stories. Any new twist to classics is alright with me.

Angela Carter's mastery of language... with her lush command of words appealing to the senses was helpful as her characters guide you to the world of magical realism this book offer. brilliant, brilliant read :)

This is a collection of fairy tales that focus on the women. There is a strange sense of disphoria and so much symbolism it practically bleeds.

Some stories are very good and very unsual in the best sense. But, some are a little bit behind good and bad, quite strange. But worth reading.
The first one ist the best!

Several of these stories are really good, including "The Blood Chamber." Others are redundant, a little gratutious, and lacking the expected fairy tale connection.

Here we have some macabre feminist literature. These "fractured fairy tales", if one may term them so, are filled with gothic elements and moralistic overtones. Carter is never subtle though and it is bloody.
