Proceeding from locating deer, finding out who owns the property, obtaining a hunting license, getting permission to hunt and then scouting, choosing appropriate hunting tools, locating stands, killing, extracting, preserving and eating deer, bear, wild hogs, wild turkeys as well as squirrels and rabbits is what this book is all about.
Throughout all of this central themes are to hunt close to home, use low cost equipment, process the animals yourself and bring the entire family into the hunting and food preperation processes. The results are not only costs savings and presenting high-quality food to the other family members, but this process also can provide welcome intergenerational contacts between children, parents and grandparents.
The 50 recipes are all kitchen tested, simple to make and the author has served them many times. There is sufficient variety to provide a range of dishes suitable for most occasions. There is not much "fancy" here; although many of the dishes are new variations on old standards.

  • “You have a stove don't you? It's that big appliance in the kitchen with the four eyes on top. Maybe you haven't used it much, but it is time to take the dirty dishes off the top, wipe if off and actually cook something with it besides pizza and TV dinners.”
