The first one in this series was better than Freedom. I thought Freedom had too many storylines/characters to develop to make it a good read.

While not as good as Daemon (which is a must-read), it's a pretty solid sequel and well worth reading. It does take the idea that we're living in a corpocracy to its absolutely crazy limits, but then again, the beauty of sci-fi is that it's allowed to do just that to ideas to help you gain a more critical look on the world.

I just completed a second reading of this book, and feel I need to do my first revised rating. It is a solid five stars! My original review follows:

This book probably deserves a five star rating, but it suffers from being immediately preceded by DAEMON (in chronology as well as my reading history), so I compare it unmercifully but innocently. I just was not grabbed by this one the way I was by DAEMON, but that does not mean this wasn't an all out thrill ride of a book. DAEMON had the element of mystery and unexpected revelation that FREEDOMâ„¢ could not replicate, as it was the story of the aftermath of that revelation. But what an aftermath it turned out to be! Suarez offered glimpses of some fascinating social concepts and what a world turning economically, politically, sociologically, and digitally upside down would look like. Scary, yet enticing. I would not mind plugging into the Darknet for awhile to see what it is like...

    interesting store
    good theme
intriguing use of technology (especially in prior Daemon)
    ------
sentence by sentence writing very uneven.
flashes of brilliance and Primary Question drove me to read both.

I had my doubts when the book opened with the autonomous killer motorcycles, my least favorite part of the novel "Daemon", but "Freedom" turned out to be a fun, fast-paced read.

Not nearly as good as the first...but worth a read none the less...at the very least to see what some imagine can be accomplished with today's technology.
