“There is a quote attributed to Ben Franklin that goes something like "Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see (or read).” This is what, appropriately, kept running through my mind while reading "Caught" by Harlan Coben. The master of the twist and turns stumped me this time as I did not figure out whodunit until the end although I did know that the accused was not the "who" in question...
As with all of Coben's stand alones, he brought in some familiar characters from his other books. This writing quirk brings cohesiveness to his writing. I feel like I know these people. The reader is allowed to watch the careers of some characters grow and change throughout the years. They are old friends (and enemies)...family...familiars...and what keeps me coming back to this author's work.
If you need a quick read for the weekend, I recommend this book. But WoW, what a read. Reminds me to make sure I check multiple sources before running with a story.
I like all of the characters - well except Hester...but I don't think we are ever supposed to like her -...and I couldn't stand Charlie. I found his character type-drawn as just too over-the-top stereotypical privileged, spoiled-ass, lazy, disrespectful, suburban teenager.
Now to stare at my TBR shelf for the next read. ”
