People try to escape but are killed. Sookan, her mother, and brother make the descision to escape to American territory with a secret guide. The guide ends up being a Russian spy. Sookan and her brother get split up from her mother when this happens. Sookan and her brother leave early in the morning and try to escape by themselves. Can they make it? What worked from me was the first person vantage point. The writing was so believable I feel as if it was a true story. What didn't work was the wisdom of these young children. If felt that their age should have been older for personalities. What I will remember about this book one year from know is the incredible ending where the Sookan and Inchun barely made it past the 38th parallel while guard dogs were on their tail. The tension was thick and made for an emotional ending to the story. I rate this book as a positive read. ”

It's about a girl about my age trying to go to the south part of Korea when the Japanese are controlling over Korea. It has thrill and once you read it you can't get it off you hands.”
