Quite excellent, but a bit sad. The art was awesome, the story line compelling, and the collection has an A+ from Stan Lee.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Very interesting look at superheroes and the way their actions have ramifications upon "normal" folk. I like the way it stuck with the one reporter throughout the tale, giving it solidity and the whole story as it were. ”

'Marvels' intertwines the stories of Marvel Comics biggest names (Namor, Captain America, The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, and Spiderman) from the 1930's to the 1960's. The artwork is beautiful, almost photographic at times however, the writing is sometimes convoluted.”

The story was also on pace with the superb art and tells the story of the marvel universe from a newspaper photographer's viewpoint.”

I was quickly infuriated with most of the people in here, faster than Sheldon became. I couldn't relate myself to his slow development - I was at the end faster than him. But I can understand the interesting perspective that this comic took in examining the effects of the superheros rather than the superheros themselves. But, overall, it wasn't enough to really blow me away. I also didn't find it all that spectacular when Sheldon realized that he had lost his journalist perspective because I cared too much about the superheros.”

The artwork is stunning and the story is extremely compelling, adding a great human aspect to the Marvel Universe.”

Living with the "marvels" can be pretty exciting, but at the same time, makes you feel a bit tiny. The art is great, Alex Ross never lets you down. For the fans of super heros and for those who are a bit skeptic about them, this is a great read all the same.”
