At the end of Deeper, Will, Elliott, Chester, the two Rebeccas, and Dr. Burrows all plummeted down the Pore. At the bottom, they all land on a huge mushroom, full of Spider-Monkeys and Brights. Will, Elliott, and Chester all hunt for Dr. Burrows and the virus Dominion. Will and Chester go around, carrying an unconcious Elliott. They come across Martha, a Pore renegade who had lost a son. She takes them back to her shack. Soon, one of the Rebeccas comes along and lets herself become a prisoner of Will. Meanwhile, on the surface, Celia Burrows tries to track her husbands disappearance and meets Drake, who, against all odds, survived. Back in the Pore, Will, Chester, Martha, and Elliott go across the Wolf Caves, searching for the Metal Ship, an abandonned Russian submarine that had somehow fallen into a chasm, leading it to the inside of the Pore. Will then meets up with the other Rebecca, a Limiter, and Dr. Burrows, who had become a prisoner of the Rebecca twin. While they are about to face off, Brights, an evolved form of Spider-Monkeys, show up. Eliott, who had recently regained conciousness, set off a huge explosion, scattering the group. Will and Dr. Burrows, who had joined up after the explosion, go along. They come across a harbor, which dates back to the Cold War. They find a ship, and recently go Topsoil. They meet up with Drake, Celia, and Leatherman, a friend of Drake. After a while, Roger and Will go back down to find Dominion and Chester. They meet up, and then head to the area of where the Metal Ship was. During the explosion, the submarine had carreened down into the void it was next to, Smoking Jean. Dr. Burrows and Will jump into it, thinking the Rebeccas are down there. Elliott follows behind. At the bottom, they come across a world, full of vegetation and a second sun. They come across 3 pyramids, containing the symbol on the tablet Tam gave to Will. Above surface, Drake, Leatherman, and Celia try to confront the head Styx. Instead, the Styx fool them, capturing Celia and killing Leatherman. Only Drake escapes, with the help of Elliotts father, who was once a Styx. Back underground, Will finds tons of new plants and animals. He soon comes across the two Rebeccas and their Limiter. Will and Elliott kill the Limiter, and trap the twins inside of a cove. In the Quarter, the Second Officer innterogates Celia, who first resists the Black Light, but then eventually gives in. This ends the book.
