It has been awhile since I read the The Giver, so I don't remember much about the first book of this series. This book was a good read. I liked the story line and the characters. I will read the rest of the series.

a novel. It is about a girl who has a twisted leg and was suppose to be thrown into the fields where she would die when she was born, but because of her mothers love she was saved and raised to become a very gifted weaver. The council found out and to my understanding devised a plan to whenever they find gifted people they kill off their parents making them orphans and take them in where they make them work. This is a good book for teachers to read to their students, depending on how old the child is. If the child is around six or seven it can open up their minds to make them think about what is going to happen next. Though it might be difficult to understand because for some reason Lois Lowery doesn't like tot finish her books it keeps them guessing. A younger child not be able to get that and have difficulties understanding if they have missed something.

This book was interesting, but I definitely didn't enjoy it as much as The Giver. It didn't have the same impact that the first book does. However, I did enjoy experiencing this world in a different place. It was interesting to look into a world that acted as if it were the beginning of civilization. I'm not putting this into the words I want, but definitely a unique take on a possible future for the world.

Gathering Blue is the second book in a series starting with The Giver. Kira, a disabled orphan, survives in her community only because of her special talent. She soon realizes that she must escape in order to live.

As a child, The Giver was my favorite book and I never realized it was part of a series until I got older. After reading Gathering Blue and the Messenger I fell more in love with the entire series.

I think this entire series can be used as an education in storytelling. This book shows how characters from different times and places with completely seperate upbringings can cross paths throughout a series of novels.
