The third book in what I will call this trilogy (though I'm not really sure that the three books qualify under this term) is called Messenger. In Messenger, it's quite clear where Jonas ends up.
I have not read that book yet (the villige of healing).Do you recomend it :}
The VIllage Of Healing
Anyone else think that maybe that's where Jonas from "The Giver" ended up? Also, someone told me that there's a sequel to this (not The Giver). Anyone know what it's called? Thanks, just wanted to bring that up.
Being left as an orphan toughened her up as opposed to if she had been pampered her whole life.
did you even read the book? she only got pampered after she became an orphan and began living in the gathering hall.
This was a great book, although not as fulfulling as The Giver. Good, quick read though.
personly I think that gathering blue is way better!:|
I liked this one better than the giver, although they are both really good. Interesting how Lowry made them about the same major "catastrophic" event happening and the different ways society could evolve. I didn't like the messenger as well. Something about these reminds me a little of Lord of the Flies, I guess because we always wonder what would happen if all the previous ways of living were thrown out the window and we had to start fresh.
i loved both the giver and gathering blue but people keep telling me i should and shouldnt read the messenger.... so any opinions would help me.
Definitely read it. It ties the two books together. They're all very good.
I think you need to read the messenger to finish the series.
I read this book for a class and it was ok i didnt really enjoy it. that might just be because it isnt the type of book i normally read so ya. PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT ON MY PAGE THAT YOU DIDNT LIKE THE WAY I COMMENTED. I WAS SIMPLY EXPRESSING MY OPINION!!
Years ago I read "The Giver" and instantly fell in love with the book and the message. I honestly didn't know that there was a follow up book until now although it is not as captivating to me as The Giver was it still is a good read in my opinion.
I have read the giver and gathering blue personly i think that gathering blue is better .I have not yet read the messenger do you recomend it?
Oh I think so. The Messenger ties the first two together. I think it is good. The message is good. Sacrificing your self to save the people you love. Also the main character is Matt and I just love him, so that makes it all the better.
i am not really sure how the giver and the messenger are part of the same series?
Gathering Blue is my favourite, though the Giver was good too. Messenger, in my opinion, was the worst in the series.
ya. Messenger was probably the worst book in the series. Is the giver part of gathering blue and the messenger?
I found this one but to be one of my favorites. I like The Giver a lot better.
this book starts out a little boring but by the end you'll be so attached that you'll want to read more. this book can pull you in once you start reading it. unlike the giver their village (not community) is very unsanitary and unsafe. they starve and are very tired and weak. all the characters are different in the book. instead of Jonas, Gabe, Giver, Lily, and other characters there's Kira, Matt, Thomas, Jamison, Annabella, and others in the village.
the book starts out with kira's mother dieing and her dad killed by animals, so shes an orphan. she has to go to a court to see if she gets to keep her cott (house). unfortunately she loses and stays in this place to good to be true. she soon finds out that everything is not always what she thinks it to be. shes put there to sew the singers robe. its a tradition in their village that the singer wears the robe and they sing about it. her room is placed across from thomas the carver and they soon find out secrets about their lives there.
i would recommend this book to anyone because its really good and has a lot of big twists at the end. also, if you read this book you should certainly read the messenger its good. another thing if you still want to read about Jonas and Gabe you can find out if they lived or not all by reading the last two books of the series. its worth it.
Does the series go together?
How is The Giver in the same series as gathering blue?
Because they all make you think, all are by lois lowry and all could happen but haven't.
The 3rd book explains the connection between the books. I've read most of gathering blue, it was recomened by a friend. And I'm trying to find out how the people in charge have so much power over everyone. And if there are no beast what happens to the people taken to the field.
Once i started this book i couldn't put it down. All three books are nice if not a bit strange, but you don't really get the connection until the last book.
My favorite character was Matt. Who was yours?
Is this a sequel to The Giver? Because some people were saying it was but it didn't seem like it.
Gathering Blue is listed as Book 2 in the Giver Trilogy.
It is like a sequal to The Giver, but it doesn't really conncect to The Giver until the third book, The Messenger. The author wrote the books so that they would make sense on their own. So it's like a series, but at the same time isn't.
after reading the giver and this, she bacame my favorite author(:
Which book did you like better? The Giver or Gathering Blue?
