I wanted to read this book once I'd finished Katharine Graham's "Personal History". Somehow the two books do not really complement each other. Something's missing from Bradlee's autobiography. Certainly the story's less riveting than Graham's history of the same time period. Bradlee seems less self-aware and rather disingenuous about his life and three marriages. Perhaps it is the difference between a man's perspective and a woman's view of events?

A good read from one of journalism's titans.
