Oddly enough, I liked the movie even better than this book. In the book, the main character is almost inhuman he's so heartless. I see the movie as just an additional draft of this book, as it was also written by Scott Smith.

Another page-turning novel that had me entralled and appalled in equal measures. Are there really parts of America really like this? Now a fabulous movie starring Bridget Fonda and Billy Bob Thornton (1998) in a true-to-novel rendition of the original text. Thoroughly recommended

Good storyline that was made into a movie...

Wow. Very different from "The Ruins", but no less chilling. Made me to have lost all illusions about human race...One of thrillers where I did NOT care about what will happen to the main protagonist!

As in The Ruins, the book is wonderfully written, about a horrible topic. The narrative feels right on throughout and it really is a page turner. But just when you think things can't get any worse, they do.

Great twists and turns. Something meant to be "simple" turned out really complicated!

I must confess, I didn't finish it. It started out with promise for me but more and more I began to dislike characters and as I did so I lost interest in their plight. This is not to say someone else wouldn't enjoy it. I think it was just a mismatch of literature to reader.

Ok even though this book did not exactly have a happy ending or storyline even, it was well written and it really showed true human nature and how things can start spiraling with one little lie. I really liked how it showed the non-good person plan. Each event builds on the next.
