The first three Wayfarer trilogy is a marvel. The second trilogy starts out ok but turns mushy, weak and trite. I was so disappointed after reading it that I haven't read anything else by Douglass since.

I enjoyed this ending to the second trilogy. It was satisfying and hopeful - and made me laugh out loud several times (especially at the thought of the Butler and his trial). Gory and gross - yes, but a worthwhile read.

Like the other books, it took a long time to tell its story. What I enjoy is how each character is second guessing themselves until the very end. It's a book full of insecurity, but faith in their path. And love in the shape of a bear cub.

I was disappointed with this trilogy, not because the writing wasn't as good as always, but because the fantastic world I still loved from the previous trilogy and was hoping to see new things about was completely uprooted. Ideas for tailoring my own RPG for it quashed. It was too quick of a demise for the world, and the way in which it became reformed was disappointing to me.

Pilgrim and Crusader bring Sara Douglass’ epic fantasy series centred on three diverse races to a climactic ending. Crusader deals with Drago’s quest to reclaim his true heritage as Starson and the crusader destined to battle the evil Qeteb in a bid to save Tencendor. For such a thoughtful series, very weak ending.
