Very enjoyable and fast paced, however, I felt it was very predictable.

I didn't like this book. I struggled to get through it. I thought the female protagonist was pathetic.

I found this REALLY trite, and I kinda hate trite. Trite can be rescued by really good writing... there was no really good writing.

when i've finished reading anita shreve's the pilot's wife, what muire boland told kathryn struck me most:
"It was worse for me. I knew about you, you never had to know about me."
-i can't help thinking at what degree do their situations differ... is being a mistress really more painful because you have to endure knowing that you have to share the man you love with his other family?knowing all along that the time you will spend together is limited...or does being a wife is?when you are being cheated all along...being told lies without you realizing it...
indeed, this book really tore at my heart...=(

I found that Shreve has a real talent for describing emotions from reading this book. She plucked my strings over and over as she described learning of a long of emotional deception and reprocessing all her memories as a result. It is a very particular form of grieving, and I believe she got quite a bit of it right in this book.

As a recommended book by oprah's book club, i found it highly overrated. I thought the plot was simple that it felt obvious how the author was trying her best to make it more than what it can achieve.
