When Kit's cranky uncle comes to live in their boarding house, Kit has to help him out with doing things, including writing letters for him for the newspaper. This is making Kit lose hope that the Depression will end. When she visits a soup kitchen, she's inspired to help the children. But how can she, a nine year old girl, help? She decides to write a letter to the newspaper saying how she feels. It's amazing what one letter can do!
