“Now, to me, this was a very interesting story. It was a reminder that you should never let yourself get swept away by the crowd. Sometimes everyone you know can be saying something or believing something and it can jsut be dead wrong. All around you there might be people getting all excited or panicked and yelling for you to do the wrong thing or believe the wrong thing. they can make it very hard for you to refuse them or even just disagree with them out loud. People get angry at you when you disagree with them--especially when they're wrong--and nobody likes to be unpopular or have people angry at them. Sometimes it takes a lot of courage to ouse your reason and your heart and stand up for what's true--and I guess not enough people did that during the Salem Witch Trials. (p.99)”
“Never give in; never give in—never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty; never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force: never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”Highlighted by 25 Kindle customers

But then you live them, and that’s how you find out they’re really true.”Highlighted by 21 Kindle customers

I mean, Mike told me the good guys were the people who were moving toward the light. But how did you know if you were moving in the right direction? So many people say so many different things, believe so many different things. How can you tell whether you’re on the right side or not?Highlighted by 3 Kindle customers
“Freedom is a mistake, Charlie. Freedom means imperfection. Freedom means inequality and injustice. Freedom means some people getting rich while others don’t. When people make their own choices, they make mistakes, they do cruel things.Highlighted by 3 Kindle customers
