  • Yuri Suzuki: An ordinary 16 year old Japanese girl. She's the middle one in a family of three sisters. An extraordinary event catapults Yuri into the Bronze Age Hittite Empire where Kail, Prince of the Hittites claims her as his concubine. Soon the Hittites come to believe that she is the avatar of Ishtar, goddess of fertility and War, thrusting her into the middle of dangerous courtly intrigues. Loyal and strong-willed, Yuui quickly learns her way around the Hittite culture becoming a true prop to Kail and a skilled warrior in her own right. In between, they fall in love though both believe their love to be impossible because of the need to return Yuri to Japan.
  • Prince Kail Mursili: the third prince of the Hittites; Yuuri's fate is soon linked with his when he claims her as a concubine. Though a confirmed womanizer, Kail also has a more sincere side to his character...one that increasingly draws Yuuri's heart as the days pass. He is a gifted diplomat, administrator and soldier and the King's right hand man. Kail has the rare gift of winning the hearts of those he leads.
  • Prince Zannanza Hattusili: The Fourth prince and Kail's closest brother. He was born to the handmaiden to the former queen (Kail's mother) and they were brought up together. A skilled warrior, Zannanza is the commander of the Hittite army. He quickly grows close to Yuuri though he also has hidden feelings for her
  • Queen Nakia: the Queen of the Hitties during Suppiluliumas I's reign and a powerful priestess. An ambitious and amoral woman, she wants her own son (the youngest prince) to inherit the throne over his brothers.
  • Hadi: She is the daughter of Talos, the head of the Hatti tribe of Iron workers. Following the death of Tito, her younger brother whose death Yuuri avenged, she and her twin sisters go with her (Yuuri) as her handmaidens.
  • Ryui: She is the daughter of Talos, the head of the Hatti tribe of Iron workers. Following the death of Tito, her younger brother whose death Yuuri avenged, she and her sisters go with her (Yuuri) as her handmaidens.
  • Shala: She is the daughter of Talos, the head of the Hatti tribe of Iron workers. Following the death of Tito, her younger brother whose death Yuuri avenged, she and her sisters go with her (Yuuri) as her handmaidens.
  • Ilbani or Il Vani: Kail's foster brother and ally and a clerk in the Imperial Palace
  • Prince Mattiwaza (The Prince of Darkness): the crown prince of the Mittani and a skilled though brutal warrior. Yuuri realizes he is a troubled man with deep scars of his own
  • Urhi Shalma: Right hand man to the Queen and her main ally in her dark plots
  • Tatukia: Mattiwaza's elder sister who was married off by Tushratta to the Egyptian pharaoh for political power. Her subsequent efforts to make a place in the world for herself nevertheless sours Mattiwaza's affections towards her and in turn, all women as he sees her having traded love for power. History knows her as Nefertiti, Queen of Egypt!
  • Tushratta: the king of the Mitanni. a strong warrior in his youth, he has since then become weak and ineffectual in his old age
  • Prince Zuda: Kail's uncle and Suppiluliumas I's brother. His loyalty and strength earns him the title of the Gal Meshedi, the most powerful man in the empire after the Emperor, Empress and the Crown Prince.
  • Princess Nadia: the chief concubine of Mattiwaza and the mother of his two children. She is the younger sister of Queen Nakia
  • Suppiluliumas: Emperor of the Hittites
  • Aslan: Yuri's horse; A coal black stallion who shows an almost human intelligence at times. He doesn't let anyone but Yuri ride him
  • Kash: the commander of Prince Kail's Charioteers
