Probably my favorite of any book I've read. Beautifully written, a great introduction to Buddhist thought, a thoughtful examination of a disappearing environment and culture. This book just grabs you on many levels. I'll no doubt read it a few more times before I expire.

It's really good plus it's about dolpa where I've trekked recently and I got a chance to see the magnificient blue sheep but I saw tracks of snow leopard only, and I wouldln't have wanted to face the leopard anyway.
The book is not only about the trip, it includes lots of knowledge on zen buddhism and he has written a lot about his life too.

One of my good friends repeatedly is contacting me to see if I've yet purchased this book and begun reading it, so much is he impressed by it. Unfortunately, it is at the bottom of the pile, so to speak, as I have 17 credits this semester.

A good travel story about not seeing a snow leopard. A quest story about spiritual things.

Exceptional! I'm not usually a non-fiction fan, but there is no need to care when you read something as amazingly well written and honest as this. In The Snow Leopard the reader comes along on the emotional journey, more than the physical one, though you will smell the flowers along the way. Highly recommend

A thoughtful, healing book. I just wish I could go on a Tibetan trip and seek out snow leopards when I have my blues :) Read it.

He sees wolves, he sees the wild blue sheep of the Himalaya, but he never does see a snow leopard. Never mind, this is still Matthiessen's best book, a moving spiritual quest and a mountain adventure that celebrates the beauty of this dramatic country and the transcendence concealed in simple day-by-day survival.

I rarely read books more than once. This one I did and I'll likely read it again. Fantastic story of adventure in Nepal.
