- John McNab: John is the Sword Bearer and slew the Goblin Prince Nicholas Slapfoot in "The Sword Bearer". He is 13 in the first book. He can be rather stubborn and a bit too hasty at times but he's a good friend and brave enough. By being the Sword Bearer he owns the Sword of Geburah.
- Eleanor: Eleanor is a shy and scared girl when John first meets her. Her father is a drunk and has often tried to hurt her- making her into the terrified young girl that she is. She is 10 at the start of the book but enters Anthropos before John and spends two years there, making her 12 when John gets there. She opens up to people after she has known them for awhile and being in Anthropos and knowing Gaal gradually helps her overcome her fears.
