I saw the movie a which is a norwegian adaption called Sofies verden. It was shown in Australia as an eight part series. I was a great movie. I haven't read the book as of yet but I'm hoping it will be even better.

This is a great book. It shows what philosophy is and tells about its history.
Maybe its not as scientific and technical as we would like to see it, but stop and rethink, its a novel not a school book.
It tought me what philosophy is and how to use it in my life.
Thats what other Philosophy books cannot.

I read this book quite a few years ago and thought it more fun and interesting than the philosophy 101 classes and lectures I attended at uni!

(cheaper too, and you won't fall asleep as I did).
Another book to read in a similar vein (but a deeper investigation into philopsophy) I would recommend is Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintanence. I read that one recently.

I really liked this book, is an interesting story, but is too quick for a revision of so many philosophies

This is one GREAT book...one is drawn into it...the philosophical discussions are food for the mind...and it speaks out all the questions a thinkin person has thought of profoundly since childhood but have not found answers to....It is a refuge for people with a thoughtful bend of mind in this world which thinks that being philosophical and intellectual is so uncool....

maybe this book is a first step for entering to the philosophy's world.and it is an excelet way for introducing philosophy to the people who don't know anything about it.

A lovely book! I've always thought it would be fun to use as an intro text in Philosophy 101. The syntax is sometimes a little tedious, as it's a translation, but it's a fascinating read.
