  • Nero Wolfe: The Main Protagonist of the series. He is lazy, stubborn, pig-head, and brilliant. What he lacks in social skills, he makes up for in surreal deductive powers. A man of routines and habits and find tastes, he is one who almost never varies far from home, but instead, enjoys the quiet comfort of his scheduled meals, trips to his orchid greenhouse, and his afternoon beers and reading.
  • Archie Goodwin: Wolfe's assistant, and the narrator of all Wolfe stories. The Legs of the Detective Duo. He makes up for what Nero Wolfe lacks- a sense of humor and quick with the wit. The ability to track down a lead and follow it to the conclusion. A combination secretary, assistant, and first class detective.
