“although i am still reading the book (i have reached page no.463), i dont understand who is the suitable boy for whom. And why all young people are merrymaking? and their parents stressed.”
“i loved the character of Firoz, the way he handled the most trying crisis of his life...when he knew the truth about Tasneem, his father and how he saved his friend Maan...”
“it is a great book with all the commercial filmy element.......if started once nobody will feel like keeping it down.......a perfect package of fat indian wedding intertwained with the political background and cultural ideals of the then india.... i would love it more if lata and kabir could have married and lived happily ever after.............”
“dis one is as vibrant n touching as any other of seths books. no one can weave a story around a plethora of characters who all come frm different backgrounds as well as seth does.a must read.”
“A nice interesting book although very loooooong”
“I had read the book over a decade ago. But each character is till vividly etched in my memory. Very well written. Although the sheer size of the book may at first seem intimidating, once you start, it pulls you into the lives of the characters that they seem like you know the personally. A soap opera among books. ”
“The first rule of writing, they say, is to write what you know. Well, Suitable Boy certainly flies in the face of this, because Seth has created a masterpiece about lives and times he couldn't possibly have had any first hand experience of, considering he was only just born in 1952! As prominent Indian author Kushwant Singh remarked: "I lived through that period and I couldn't find a flaw. It really is an authentic picture of Nehru's India." Another telltale mark of its genius is that once you begin reading it, you'll never notice its nigh-1500 page length. He keeps your attention, and keeps you delighted, with every page and every character's story. And to think he first planned it as a short piece! ”
