Tracy Chevalier took a famous painting and wrote a fictional story about the painting's subject. What an imagination!

I've read Chevalier's 'The Lady and the Unicorn' and thoroughly enjoyed that. I'm nearing the end of this one now and its excellent.

Have any of you read any of Chevalier's other books? Are they worth it??? I definitely liked her style of writing in this one. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Or, have you read any other historical fiction that deals with artists (or others) that are worth a read?

    Thank you,

Loved this book! Movie was ok, but still worth seeing; if for no other reason than to gaze at Colin Firth ;-)

hi..i'm working in my research paper on this book..it's about the unknown girl depicted in Vermeer's painting "Girl with a pearl Earring"..the author "Tracy Chevalier" tried to imagine the story behind the girl's sitting in front of the painter and her confusing gaze...the book recognizes the real life of the painter Vermeer and adds to it the figure of the painting ,a german protestant maid "Griet" working in the catholic household of Vermeer...what happens to her?is it love which makes the painter "Vermeer" paint this maid?what is the story behind the pearl earring?..to discover all that go an read the book...it's really intresting..i'm sure you'll enjoy it...love,Amira
