I think he had a lot to say, and I loved that some of what he wrote was based on historical events, but the style came dangerously close to making me not...” see full review » see other reviews » |

good historical fiction from many different view points.”
“The book i read was day of tears. The main character is Emma the masters slave . it was a good book. the story was told in her point of view. The master had selled all of his slaves and his daughters were mad the only one he did not sell was emma but at the end of the book he sold her. The masters daughter did not even wanted to talk to him. The author wrote this book because he wanted to inform us about how bad it was when there was slavery back when it was 1900. ”

There was a family that was split up by the slave trade and Day of Tears is about their lives and how they were treated when they were slaves. Another thing is how they were sold several times and moved to differant plantations around the Unided States. Also how they ecscped slavery and lived thier life in the north. They were still treated unfairly in the north even though there wasn't any slavery in the north. Well over all this story was very impacking on my thoughts about slavery. I recommend this book to readers who like to learn about the past, and like books the keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time.”

“Day Of Tears is a historical fiction book, that takes the time period of the slavery in america. There are many main characters but on that sticks out to me is Mr. Pierce Butler. He has the reputation as the nicest plantation owner, and one to never break a promise. But when Mistress Henfield offered him a high price for just one of his best slaves and the debt he had from gambling. He couldn't deny the offer, but that meant breaking the most promise to break. And message of story is that real friends are more than any money offered. The selling of his most trusted slave all started when he went into gambling debt and was forced to sell the all but few of his slaves. But when the seller caught and eye of his best slave ( emma ) he knew that she could be sold for a lot of money. Witch leads to the climax of the book. The selling of emma. So if you are looking for a book describing the times of slavery "Day Of Tears" is a good choice. ”

Characterization-One of the main Characters are Emma. Emma has a big heart for the people she cares about. She knows her options and voices her opinions.
Conflict- Emma-What's the matter, Miss Sarah? Frances-There's nothing the matter with her. She's just a cry baby. Sarah-I'm not Frances-Are too!... Frances wants Emma to brush her hair. Emma- Miss Sarah needs me right now.
Rising actions- When Emma ”
“It takes place in 1859, at the Butler plantation and at the slave auction, in the Southern United States of America. The main characters were Emma(a slave at the plantation), Pierce Butler(the plantation owner), Francis(Pierce Butler's 1st daughters), and Mattie(Pierce Butlers 2nd daughter). The main conflict was Pierce Butler selling most of his slaves-including a slave(Emma) that 1 of his daughters thought of as a mother-and separating all the family from each other(Man vs. Man). The rising action was Pierce Butler gambling a lot and not being good at the games, getting a huge gambling debt, and not being able to pay off his debt so he had so sell his slaves to earn the money.”

Emma is a butler slave she work's for her master to pre pair food and drinks and to clean up things. She's kind, nice, respectful, follow directions correctly and she has two daughters. The biggest slave auction is gonna go off and Emma is worried that her children are gonna get taken away from her. The end of the slave auction. Racism ruins lives and family's. Ex. your at the slave auction and you have your family with you and your master sells you and you are split ted a part from your family and you wont probably ever see them again. I kinda don't recommend this book because it's like going off and on like to each person. If someones said something then the other person said something i didn't like how it was set up.”
