Beautiful book. Sparked an interest in Nabokov.

I'm giving it a rest right now, because I have to struggle to get to the end of a page... Reading has to be a pleasure, not torture. Russian literature isn't one of my favs... :(

I liked it a lot, but I could never get through reading it because I got physically sick everytime I tried.

Lo-li-ta.

So once I got past the "icky" part of the story, I really enjoyed this book. Sometimes it felt wrong to be laughing, but it really is somewhat humorous at times. And I think it says a lot about the writer that he made me feel sorry for the narrator even though the dude was having sex with his 13-year-old step-daughter. Obviously I don't agree with what the guy was doing, but I was still able to appreciate the way he described how it felt to be in love.

Best line in the book: "And I knew as surely as I was to die that I loved her more than anything I'd ever seen or imagined on earth."

The subject matter made it difficult to get through, but the language was beautiful. Went on and on in some parts, but in others, such as the end scene with Cue, are beautifully and creatively written.
