“The end was inevitable and the only way it could go. As much as we would have loved for it to be resolved in some other humane manner, the outside world had not gone through the remarkable transformation that the captors and captives had. It was a wonderfully romanticized story of a terrorist takeover, but I had a hard time believing all 50 captives got along so well....for 4+ months? One big happy family? A little hard to believe. Not one hot head attempting to over throw the terrorists? No plots to get out? That being said, I still loved the fantasy of it.”
“I hated it. At first I enjoyed it, through the middle I tolerated it, and in the end I got mad. Everyone you developed true feelings for dies. ”
“i felt like the author got stuck with her direction so had to kill everybody off. The ending is quite lame to me”
“Enjoyed the plot and development, not sure about the ending.”
“Abolutely Patchett's best book: the others were a disappointment. Her writing & character development were as lush as the countryside. As an opera fanatic I was of course drawn to buy this book, and read it non-stop like a chocoholic with a 5-lb box of godivas on her lap. As with some of you I was so sorry when it ended. It was truly one of the great novels of the year.”
“I loved this book, so well written. The language is poetic”
“Is this book worth reading?”
“Interesting story of several individual characters held captive, a story about relationships, friendships, uncertainties, hardships, hope and love. Captivating!”
“Excellent book!!! I just finished ... but did not undertand why this end .... ”
“To me this book was like a mirror of the larger world. What do you think?”
