Fraser does neither, though, doling out facts in a lush, substantive way. One...” see full review » see other reviews » |

“I suppose this book isn't bad compared to others of its kind, but simply not my cup of tea. I sought this book out after watching the movie version directed by Sofia Coppola. Unlike most people, I greatly prefer the movie. The book was simply too long winded and dry for my taste. It took me forever to get through this book! That being said, I would love to get my hands on a historical novel about Marie Antoinette, of which I've heard there are many. I recommend this to die-hard Marie Antoinette fans and those who enjoy thoroughly researched and detailed historical biographies.”

Other comments were that the book elicits feelings of sympaty for poor, poor Marie. I don't think the group found the book and the movie based on it to be similar. ”

This book was about the life of former queen of France, Marie Antoinette. Marie Antoinette was originally born to the Austrian royal family, and maried King Louis XIV. The book was about the life of Marie Antoinette. It spoke about her life as Queen of France, her role in the French Revolution, and eventually her execution, which lead go a republic in France. I liked this book because it provided the reader with historical events, as well as an engaging plot to keep the reader interested. The book did not just state facts and dates. Instead it was written in a creative way that allowed the reader to learn more about the detailed lif of marie Antoinette. This allowed me to get a different perspective on the former queen, and learn more abut France. ”

I own this book and have read it before. I really liked it, mostly for it's subject matter. Marie Antoinette was the victim of vicious propaganda and some of the myths propagated then still circulate today (she never said, "Let them eat cake"). ”

It follows this book faithfully to the half-way point. It was exciting to read what happens to them after the movie ends. Antonia Fraser is a famous biographer. Very thorough. ”
