The Witch's Boy

The Witch's Boy

by Michael Gruber

This critically acclaimed tale of a witch and her goblin-child is wholly original, and the legendary characters of old who touch their story -- Cinderella, Rapunzel, Rumplestiltskin -- are made new through Michael Gruber's imaginative lens. Gruber's literary voice is as magical as his imagination. With The Witch's Boy he has created a wondrous journey through the realms of magic.

This book is awesome. It caused me to think about it for ages and ages, I still find myself remembering passages at odd moments, and this is two years later! It's the story of lump, a boy left in a tree because of disfiguration and found by a witch and raised by a bear nurse. It's rich with alusions to fairy tales and is anguishing and beautiful to read, as lump finds, it's not what people see on the outside that counts, it's the love they have on the inside.
