Yes, it is a memoir of a man's experiences during WW1, but it is full of philosophy and life lessons gleaned from exceedingly rough experiences. The main character is highly educated and privileged before his life is turned upside-down. But his intellect enables him to view his circumstances from a fox hole to a lookout in the Alps, seeing young lives lost as well as love had and lost. It is full of everything & the rare book I could read over & over.”

I quickly changed my mind and now can't wait to read the next story about the life of this wonderful old man! Very well written and captivating. I can see that another book will be a difficult follow.”
