“I guess if it were possible to give half stars on Shelfari I would give this 2.5 stars because to say that "I didn't like it" about this book isn't quite true. There are certainly things to like about this book. Overall though, I feel that with its seven parts this novel (which is almost like a series of short stories) has a schizophrenic feel to it which makes it hard to extract Kundera's themes and morals.”

All of Kundera's books are pretty good, and they are filled with insightful observations into the essence of being human and what that means for human relationships.”

In a series of interrelated short stories, Kundera reveals all the thoughts and trivialities of his characters, without losing the feel of a novel. To me, his stories really brush up against life. I don't know how he does it, but I aspire to write like him someday.

“Kundera is one of the best writers I know. He went through a lot of poverty in his homeland and his characters reflect it. Those who are poor have nothing but love to give and sometimes he shows that this is just not enough. His major work is The Unbearable Lightness of Being and I thought Immortality was also very interesting, demonstrating to us that everything is irrational, yet interrelated. ”

This book is about everything -- politics, history, relationships, friendships, and it all intertwines in this strangely disjointed but perfectly sculpted way.”
