I got about 120 pages into this and just seemed to lose interest. It's now been back on my shelf for a couple months...is it worth picking up again? Does the story get more interesting?

The entire chapter containing Hasina's letters is a weak spot in the novel - its predictable and the broken English is diverting - even irritating

I read this book about 4 or 5 years ago. I really liked the insight into another culture (aside from "American"!) and the perspective it provided. I have a bias toward wanting to learn about other cultures, though. I liked how the characters were developed, and I thought that Ms. Ali was a good storyteller as well.

I read this book because I had nothing else to read! It was lent to me by a friend. For me it was an interesting insight into another culture. I have a feeling that the film would be better than the book at making it make sense, and hold a persons interest.

Funny, somshivam and lazyday101, you may have hit the nail on the head with why I've not been able to reach the final full-stop. And, I wanted to like this book...

the book is a waste of time and money. The same old story of cultural clashes, too cliched characters of the meek wife, the insensitive husband and one track mind bugging parents.

Picked up this book as a 'special' and the publicity over the film launch - finding it really hard to get in the flow...it seems to jump all over the place and find myself at times have to go back a page to refresh where I was in the Story - it is not holding me at all - contemplating to put it down for now????
